The Gospel - According to the Scriptures

"I declare unto you the gospel ...
how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
And that he was buried,
and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures."

1 Corinthians 15: 1,3-4

~~~~~
◽️ "Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures ..."
THERE … upon Golgotha's hill, three crosses side by side;
That place of ignominy and shame - our Lord was crucified.
There upon that centre cross as if the very worst,
The Substitute was lifted high and bravely bore our curse.
THEY … who were of high profile; the elders, priests and scribes,
They engineered and stirred the crowd, with taunts and threats and bribes
To cry for Jesus' blood that day. Their cruel and evil plan
Was manifested in its strength upon this blameless Man.
CRUCIFIED … the very worst mankind could do to Him,
But God be blessed; for He addressed the question of our sin
When lifted high 'tween heaven and earth in view for all to see,
And bravely took the sinner's place alone at Calvary.
HIM … The theme of angel's praise, adored by heaven's hosts.
Him, the Father's greatest joy in whom we love to boast.
Unwanted by the world is He but in our hearts embraced.
The One who died now lives again - forever to be praised. - AleB
◽️ "He was buried ..."
The Lord Jesus died was buried “with the rich in His death”, so the Scripture prophesied He would. (See Isaiah 53: 9) He was to be given the burial of a King! A man called Joseph of Arimathaea would have known about this, being a member of the Sanhedrin along with Nicodemus, who came to Jesus to speak with Him in the night when there was nobody else around. (See John 3: 1-21)
Being very well acquainted with the Scriptures, they would have questioned if this Man who was roaming the area and making a tremendous impact among the people was the Messiah that the Scriptures promised. Perhaps after watching Him closely, after listening to reports about what He was doing and teaching, and after Nicodemus had that conversation with the Lord Jesus that night, they would had have spoken together and understood by faith the role they had to play in the fulfilling of those sacred writings.
And so a tomb was prepared by Joseph who was extremely wealthy, and swaddling bands and spices were at the ready for when they would have the honour and privilege, and the great responsibility of anointing and preparing the body of the Lord Jesus for burial.
These men in an act of pure love and devotion to the One who would soon rise from the dead as He said He would, nailed their colours to the mast as it were, and by their actions made it well and truly known that they were followers of Jesus who had just been crucified. They knew the Scriptures, and conducted their lives accordingly. Their deeds were to never be forgotten.
The promise of our beloved Lord’s soon coming to take His people to be with Himself is on the horizon. How we handle the truth we know, and the Lord we love, and the responsibilities we have been given may soon be acts of devotion that will also never be forgotten.
May we be found faithful to Him in all things as the promised day is fast approaching ... Perhaps Today!
◽️ "He rose again the third day according to the scriptures."
“He is not here: for he is risen.”
Matthew 28:6
The Lord is risen indeed! The stone is rolled away and the tomb is empty! There is no stench of death and corruption, just the sweet fragrance of myrrh and aloes. Angels sit at the head and at the feet where His body had lain. No body is found, just the untouched, unmoved grave clothes. “He is not here: for he is risen”. What a victory! - Pete Smith
